The Steelers surprised many people by not drafting a quarterback in the early rounds, taking Will Howard with the 185th pick. This means their quarterback room consists of Howard, Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.
Aaron Rodgers seems to be more out of the picture than in the picture, which is where Cousins comes in as that potential day one starter for Pittsburgh, who can bring veteran leadership to these young quarterbacks on their roster.
The Falcons have their quarterback in Michael Penix Jr. but are still in this hole with Cousins taking up a bunch of salary space on the roster. The Steelers could be the team to pay a decent chunk of the guaranteed money owed to Cousins.
Cousins is still rostered with the Falcons and at the moment sits in the quarterback two spot right behind Penix. Cousins has made it clear multiple times that he does not want to be a backup and still wants to be the leader of a team. If he went to the Steelers, he would play under Mike Tomlin who coached Ben Roethlisberger for years.
Cousins will most likely not waive his no trade clause if a trade was made because of how likely it would be for him to start in Pittsburgh. Rudolph would be his main competition as Howard will potentially sit at QB3.
As the offseason continues to bring out big news, this will be one that many people and teams will be monitoring this situation, until more news comes out on either side.
