Free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason.
The four-time MVP has been patient to sign a contract, and a theory went viral that Rodgers was waiting to announce his decision in Pittsburgh during Pat McAfee’s “Big Night AHT” at PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday night.
During appearance on “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger” this week, McAfee speculated what would happen during his show on Wednesday night. He said Rodgers was not on the docket but didn’t dismiss the idea that Rodgers would be a last-minute guest.
“There’s gonna be a lot of big surprises tomorrow night at Big Night AHT,” McAfee said. “Aaron Rodgers is not on the docket. So I would like everybody to know that. Because I think the show is, the show has so many real moments that are gonna be coming.
“And I think there’s a chance people afterwards go, ‘(Expletive) didn’t see Aaron,’ sorry. ‘Freaking didn’t see Aaron Rodgers out there.’ I have not talked to Aaron Rodgers… There’s a chance… that he’s watching film, obviously getting better at football. And he has a shovel underneath the pyramids trying to figure out what those are. There’s a chance.”
McAfee was careful not to say Rodgers would not come on the show. McAfee wouldn’t pass up an opportunity for a surprise on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.
McAfee knows that the moment would be special for fans of the Steelers and the NFL.
“To be clear, I think it would be a very positive reaction at that particular show,” McAfee said. “If it was announced… But that is not on the expected things to happen list if you will. I would like to temper expectations.”
McAfee is a true showman. He’s not promising an appearance by Rodgers. He’s not saying it won’t happen. People will have to tune in to find out.
