The Miami Dolphins' player exodus continues, this time with Jaylen Waddle making his way to the Denver Broncos.
He joined Minkah Fitzpatrick, Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb as former Dolphins stars taking their talents and big cap hits elsewhere. That's why it only makes sense that teams looking for help at running back inquire about De'Von Achane's availability.
The speedy running back is eligible for a second contract, and he's done more than enough to get a significant raise to his $5.8 million salary. According to Dolphins writer Alain Poupart of On SI, that might be the first order of business before even considering trading him.
"Logically, any team trading for Achane would want to have his contract situation sorted out before giving up assets to get him on their roster, so maybe the Dolphins could end up giving Achane's agent permission to work out an extension with a new team before a trade is consummated," Popuart wrote.
Achane turned 238 carries into 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns last season, averaging a whopping 5.7 yards per carry for a team constantly trailing. If that wasn't impressive enough, he had 67 catches on 85 targets for 488 yards and four scores.
Running backs don't usually carry the same type of trade value as wide receivers, but Achane is just 24 years old and probably the craftiest and most explosive running back in the game. As such, even if the Dolphins have every reason to want to keep him, extending him now gives them more leverage to get more value in return for his services.
