There's An Odd 'Glitch' In NFL's 2025 Schedule

The NFL released its full schedule for the 2025 season yesterday. But fans trying to access that schedule online may have discovered an odd glitch in the system.

It was ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio who was among the first to publicize that the NFL.com version of the new schedule shows that a Week 16 doubleheader of Packers-Bears and Eagles-Commanders is slated for Friday, December 19. Those teams are currently slated to play on Saturday, December 20 with times still TBD.

"The NFL.com version of the 2025 schedule currently shows that those games will happen on Friday, December 19," Florio wrote.

"Also, the official website schedule for each of the four teams contains a TBD as to the time AND the date of the Week 16 games. (For confirmation — and acknowledging the possibility they might change it before you click on it — here are the Eagles, Commanders, Packers, and Bears.)"

As of writing, those errors are still up. At least a couple of users on X replied to Florio and pointed out that when they try to add the game to their iPhone calendar it defaults to Friday rather than Saturday too.

"It is very strange. I just added the packers schedule to my iPhone calendar from the team website and the schedule has the game at 6pm on Friday…"

Florio theorized that the NFL might have initially planned to have those games played on that day but the league ultimately changed the decision near the deadline to comply with federal law.

Others have pointed out that December 20 will be a college football triple-header for the College Football Playoff and the league may have wanted to avoid it.

"Could have also been a nod to the CFP First Round being that Saturday. And part of the idea of not going up against each other too, eventually, but maybe in 2026 they’ll do it."

"Would that also avoid conflict with the Sat NCAAF playoff triple header on the Sat?"

It's an interesting situation and one that could be worth following if the league decides somewhere down the line to adjust the schedule. The league has never done such a thing other than to avoid or respond to inclement weather.

But money talks...
