There was once a rumored connection between the Cleveland Browns and free-agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. That ship has sailed and there is optimism that Hopkins will sign with the New England Patriots following Thursday’s visit, per a report.
Hopkins recently visited the Tennessee Titans and multiple reports indicated that the visit went well but no deal was struck. Now, Hopkins is visiting Gillette Stadium on Thursday where there’s optimism a deal comes together.
Hopkins is on the free agent market for the first time in his NFL career after being cut by the Arizona Cardinals. According to the NFLPA, the Patriots have $14.2 million in cap space — if very well could take all of that to bring in Hopkins.
In just nine games last season, Hopkins totaled over 700 yards receiving and showed he’s still got it.
The chance of Deshaun Watson and Hopkins re-connecting in Cleveland looks to be zero, for now. It’s down to the Titans and the Patriots, with plenty of momentum favoring New England who could wrap things up relatively soon.
