These amazing Steelers 'MNF' numbers will blow your mind

When it comes to Monday nights in autumn and winter, no team is "ready for some football" more than the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With their 26-22 win over the Cleveland Browns on Monday night, the Steelers ran their all-time Monday record to 56-31-1, per Stathead from Pro Football Reference. A closer look at Pittsburgh's historical Monday game log from Pro Football Reference turns up numbers that are even more impressive.

  • The Steelers' home record in Monday games is 31-10-1.
  • Since "Monday Night Football" became a weekly occurrence in 1970, Pittsburgh's record is 54-26.
  • The Steelers have won 21 of their past 25 Monday games, including 21 of their past 22 such home games.
  • Pittsburgh's only home Monday loss over those past 22 games was in 2020 against Washington, a game that was rescheduled due to COVID-19. It kicked off at 5 p.m. Eastern time. The Steelers' last loss in a scheduled Monday night home game came in 1991, a 23-20 defeat to the New York Giants.
  • Two weeks following the aforementioned Washington game in 2020, Pittsburgh lost another Monday night game at Cincinnati. If the hastily rescheduled Washington game is excluded, the last time the Steelers lost back-to-back Monday night games came 17 years ago, a 9-0 loss in Week 2 of the 2006 season at Jacksonville that came after a 26-7 defeat in Week 12 of the 2005 season at Indianapolis.
  • Since 1970, Pittsburgh has only lost back-to-back Monday night home games once, in Week 4 in 1985 against Cincinnati and in Week 2 in 1986 against Denver.

The Steelers remaining opponents this season will be glad to know that barring any flex scheduling, Pittsburgh does not have any more Monday night games.

As for the Browns, they still haven't started 2-0 since 1993 and haven't won a regular-season game in Pittsburgh since 2003. Nothing is guaranteed in sports, but given the historical trends of these longtime rivals, the outcome of Monday night's game was as close to a lock as you can get.
