Detroit Lions veterans Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jared Goff have gone through it all together.
From dealing with a 2021 season that led to a 3-13 record for the teammates, to now becoming perennial postseason attendees with genuinely solid chances at making the Super Bowl, the quarterback and wide receives have become the perfect example of how important it is to have impenetrable chemistry between your signal caller and your top wide receiving target.
St. Brown just finished up a 2024 season which saw him snag 12 touchdowns, 1,263 receiving yards, and a leaguewide second-best 115 receptions. To imagine him getting any better than that, especially when he's paired with another 1,000-plus yard receiver in Jameson Williams, is absurd.
But, it's genuinely possible thanks to the bond he and Goff have shared throughout their respective tenures with the Lions.
During training camp, you're looking to see that players are conditioning, ramping back up to NFL speed, and are being an example to the rookies now rostered. For St. Brown and Goff, that sort of brief but important moment of being an example came after Friday's first padded practice wrapped up. The two remained after practice was officially ended for the day, getting in work to build up to their return in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.

Goff has already begun to go on the record about new offensive coordinator John Morton, telling reporters in training camp that he hasn't noticed much change from last year's playbook to this year's. This could obviously be a bit of gamesmanship - Ben Johnson is going to be facing off with the Lions in Week 2, so maybe Detroit wants him to assume he knows what they're running.
But, if we're taking this at face value, it would suggest that he and St. Brown are about to see the same high-flying, moon ball focused plays centered around the two of them, with Williams in tow. Goff had the most deep pall passing attempts in 2024 amongst all quarterbacks in the NFL per Fantasy Pros, with eight total attempted beyond 50 yards.
They also have a pretty excellent backfield in David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs to rely upon, but if the praise of Morton is any indication, we're about to once again witness the one-two punch of Goff and St. Brown taking the NFC by storm.
