The Wisconsin football staff had kept a close eye on a potential top New Jersey talent for quite some time before extending a scholarship.

Ian Walker, a 2027 class offensive lineman from New Jersey, is one of the top local rising talents and possesses the offers to back it up. Walker most recently picked up an offer from Georgia, but also holds offers from Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Penn State, and Oregon. Wisconsin joins a growing list as the lineman has been rapidly acquiring scholarships as of late.

Walker is currently not ranked, but likely will find himself among the top talent in the state due to his rare set of skills.

Wisconsin Football Extends Scholarship to 2027 OL Ian Walker Following Months of Scouting

For the Wisconsin football staff, offering Walker was an easy decision, but picking the right time and place to do so was a different story.

The Badgers had kept close tabs on the 6-foot-6-inch, 305-pound offensive lineman before extending a scholarship offer. Offensive line coach AJ Blazek was instrumental in the offer and has been an advocate for agile lineman.

When asked about the offer, Walker stated, “[Coach Blazek] likes how I can bend, have quick feet, and have a fast change of direction.” Walker also added, “From everything my coach has been telling me, [The Wisconsin staff] have really shown interest in me.” Given the potential fit into the offense and the mold that Blazek admires, it is easy to see why the Wisconsin staff would be glued to Walker.

The Wisconsin football staff loved giving out the offer to Walker given his fit, and the recruit felt similarly. “Receiving that offer is really an honor to me,” stated Walker.

In terms of why the offer means so much to Walker, the offensive lineman stated, “Wisconsin has put countless offensive lineman into the NFL, so being recognized as a scholarship guy makes me feel amazing.”

With Ian Walker, Wisconsin Badgers Could Usher in Winning Mentality

There is no doubt that over the past few season the Wisconsin football team has not hit the mark on the field, but plenty has been done to change that. One such thing that the staff is working on correcting is the mentality and work ethic throughout the team.

For Walker, winning is not everything, but losing at anything is not acceptable as the recruit stated, “I need to go to winning program, I hate to lose.” Walker hates to lose and believes winning is more than just results on the field but rather a cultural expectation set. “I feel like winning is a culture thing. If you got guys who are willing to put in the work everyday and buy into what the coaching are giving them, you win.”

Walker acknowledged that losses and unfortunate results happen on the field, but stated, “Everybody puts on the pads the same.” Losses happen, but giving everything that there is to give and doing whatever is needed to potentially win is what truly matters.

The mentality of Walker is both an admirable one and one that is also seemingly fading throughout college football. The Wisconsin football staff could secure a gem both on the field and in the locker room with a potential commitment from Walker down the line.
