Netflix will release a documentary Dallas Cowboys fans will likely tune in in August 19. The show is called " America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys" and will cover Jerry Jones' purchase of the team and the 1990s dynasty.
On Monday, Netflix released its first full trailer of the show and we got to see a little more about what to expect.
Below are three nuggets in particular that stood out from the trailer, which runs for 2:11.
Most of the trailer features Jones and Johnson, and discusses both the success and corruption of the 1990s Cowboys. The trailer shows the franchise owner discussing how he had to take risks after gambling his "family's fortune," referring to Jimmy's hiring.
"No one ever thought Jerry had the guts to fire Jimmy," former Cowboys HC Barry Switzer says in the trailer.
The story has been told countless times but the Netflix documentary is set to feature interviews with both Jones and Johnson, per the trailer.
Jimmy Johnson's intensity as a head coach is celebrated by Miami U and Cowboys fans alike. And one of the stories told the most to describe it is his response to a player who claimed to be resting because he had asthma.
"Asthma my (expletive)! Get over there on that other field and have some asthma! You're on the wrong field to have asthma!" Johnson yelled in a clip played a millions of times.
The same clip is featured in the documentary, so you can expect Johnson to address it.
It's no secret Irvin's time with the Cowboys includes some dark times, including a police arrest after Irvin was found with marijuana, cocaine, and strippers in a Residence Inn by Marriott hotel room.
The Netflix documentary shows a picture of a Residence Inn by Marriott, presumably the same one from the arrest. While the image is showing, an unnamed voice says:
"Police officers came to me."
Irvin's voice cuts in: "And they pulled a gun. . . 'Open the door right now!"
It seems the doc will certainly dedicate some time to that sequence, which could provide some untold information from Irvin's perspective. Back then, Irvin was put on probation for four years.
