'Think about it' - CeeDee Lamb named in bold prediction that is perfectly and fittingly ironic ahead of 2025 Cowboys season

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has been on a roll and it's likely going to get better now that he has a running mate of George Pickens' caliber to play with.

The hype is getting real for Lamb, who was at the heart of a bold prediction sent into the world by NFL.com columnist Jeffri Chadiha. In a post listing 10 bold predictions around the league, he called for Lamb to set a new record of most catches in a single season, for which he needs 150.

Think about it. Lamb produced 135 receptions in 2023 with a healthy Prescott, which was 14 catches shy of the league mark of 149 established by former Saints receiver Michael Thomas in 2019. Lamb also generated 101 catches last season, when Prescott only played in eight games because of a season-ending hamstring injury. You pair Lamb with a receiver as dangerous as Pickens, and it's likely that opposing defenses will be frustrated on weekly basis.

The prediction is perfectly and fittingly ironic for an obvious reason: Pickens' arrival has been portrayed by both Cowboys wide receivers as something that will result in two WR1s on offense, rather than Pickens entering as WR2. For many, that implies Pickens taking targets away of Lamb.

However, they're obviously being good teammates to each other. Lamb is largely expected to remain the top dog of the offense.

But, in reality, having Pickens to draw away coverage will benefit Lamb get open more often and avoid double coverage. It might sound contradicting, but another top-tier receiver will only provide Lamb with better opportunities, not take them away from him.

Lamb's 2023 season ranks sixth for most catches in a single season (135), per Pro Football Reference. Getting to 150 in a 17-game season is definitely doable but it will take a pass-happy approach from the Cowboys offense. Under Brian Schottenheimer's play-calling, it'll be intriguing to see how he runs the show.

Whether or not Lamb strips Michael Thomas' from his NFL record, the bold prediction is a reflection of how exciting Pickens' arrival to the Cowboys really is.

Dallas doesn't have the perfect roster but if the passing game can get going, they'll be a tough out this season.
