Third-stringer Mason Rudolph has not requested a trade from Steelers

Pittsburgh’s third-string quarterback Mason Rudolph spoke to reporters about his demotion Wednesday, but according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, neither the QB nor his agent has approached the Steelers requesting a trade.

There has been speculation that Rudolph would ask for a trade because of the roadblocks in front of him: starting QB Mitch Trubisky and his rookie backup, Kenny Pickett, the first-round pick from Pitt who beat him out. In training camp, Rudolph said he was disappointed he didn't get more reps.

Rudolph echoed that sentiment again Wednesday, telling Dulac, “I would have liked to have had more first-team reps, but decisions are made. I’m moving forward.”

It is unclear whether Rudolph will eventually ask for a trade, but it is clear the Steelers value him enough to not give him away for little in return.

As a third-string QB, it's unlikely Rudolph will suit up for a game. Rudolph has played in 17 games over three seasons for the Steelers.

When asked if he would prefer to play somewhere else, Rudolph told 93.7 The Fan’s Josh Rowntree, “Those decisions are between my agent and (GM) Omar (Khan) and the front office, so I’m going to leave that to those guys. For now I’m on this team, and I’ll do the best I can to help the guys prepare.”

So, heading into Week 1 at Cincinnati, Rudolph will remain a Pittsburgh Steeler.
