This Anthony Richardson Injury Update May Concern Colts Fans
Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is making his way back from shoulder surgery, but it seems clear he definitely has a little while to go before he is 100 percent.

The second-year standout provided an update on his recovery at organized team activities this week, and what he said might worry some Colts fans.

“Some days I feel amazing and then some days I wake up like, ‘Dang, my shoulder’s a little achy,'” said Richardson, via Stephen Holder of ESPN. “But every day, I work. Whenever I finish rehab or I’m in a weight room lifting, it’s like, ‘okay, I’m back.'”

The good news is that Richardson has certainly made progress.

“Because I remember a few months ago, I couldn’t even lift my arm up,” added Richardson.

Richardson, who played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, was selected by Indianapolis with the fourth overall pick of the NFL Draft last spring.

His rookie campaign was severely marred by injuries, as he sustained a concussion in Week 2 that knocked him out of action the following game. Then, in Week 5, Richardson suffered a shoulder injury that would ultimately require surgery.

During the four games he played in 2023, Richardson threw for 577 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while completing 59.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 87.3. He also rushed for 136 yards and four scores.

The 22-year-old demonstrated tantalizing potential when he was on the field last season, and at 6-foot-4 and 244 pounds with incredible athletic ability, the talent is very visible.

That being said, there are concerns over whether or not Richardson’s aggressive play style will end up hurting him in the long run, although he insists he will not be changing how he plays.

Richardson is obviously not 100 percent yet. If his shoulder is still bothering him, it means he has some other steps to clear before he can even think about getting back into a regular routine.

The thing is, training camp is just two months away. Hopefully, Richardson can shake off the soreness by then and begin legitimately preparing for what will be his first full season under center.

The Colts went 9-8 without Anthony Richardson this past year, just barely missing the playoffs.
