The Jared Goff story is not a great one when talking about his time spent away from Sean McVay.

The former No. 1 overall pick teamed up with the young head coach and the duo went to the Super Bowl during the 2018 season.

But rumors started to emerge that McVay wanted someone else under center.

That became a reality this offseason with the swap of Goff for Matthew Stafford.

Goff is now on a winless Detroit Lions team and was out this past Sunday for yet another loss.

The only positive from that game is that Tim Boyle proved Goff is still the team’s best option to win.

Picking on Goff is easy at this point and one stat shows why he has become such an easy target.

That’s right, Goff is winless in a full 16-game slate of games without McVay as his head coach.

That includes his 0-7 record as a rookie in addition to his current start with the Lions.

Trending In The Wrong Direction

Goff is making over $25 million this season and it’s possible he rides the bench in December and January.

He is set to earn over $26 million next year and the Lions have no real way out of his deal until 2023.

This is a bad situation to be in and the Lions are hoping this was all worth it with the extra draft picks acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in the deal that swapped Goff and Stafford.

Goff has to win again at some point.

But being 0-15-1 without one head coach is terrible.

Imagine if Tom Brady suddenly left New England and could not win again.

McVay takes his fair share of criticism, but this year alone proved that he was the key all along.

All he needed was a competent quarterback to run his offense.
