Three burning questions for 2025 Vikings

The 2024 Minnesota Vikings went from one win away from the No. 1 seed in the NFC to getting their doors blown off in the Wild-Card round of the playoffs.

After a busy offseason, here are the three biggest questions the Vikings need to answer in 2025.

Will J.J. McCarthy live up to the hype?

The Vikings let Sam Darnold walk in free agency after the best season of his career, so they must have a ton of confidence in McCarthy as a franchise quarterback.

It's a bold strategy considering the Michigan product suffered a torn meniscus in the preseason and wasn't able to play valuable reps as a rookie. Minnesota liked McCarthy enough to take him 10th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and hand him the keys to the franchise at the age of 22.

Luckily for McCarthy, he's entering a great situation in his first NFL season. The star-studded supporting cast of Justin Jefferson, Aaron Jones, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson will help the youngster transition to the big leagues. Still, this is an immense amount of pressure on a first-year quarterback.

Will Kwesi Adofo-Mensah sign a contract extension?

Stability is crucial in the NFL, especially with a young quarterback, so the Vikings want to keep this current regime around as long as possible. Minnesota took an important step in that process by signing head coach Kevin O'Connell to a lucrative contract extension in January. Next up is Adofo-Mensah.

The general manager, who has led the Vikings to a 34-17 record since he took over in 2022, is under contract until just after the 2026 NFL Draft. Minnesota doesn't want to risk losing Adofo-Mensah next summer, so it would be in its best interest to ink him to an extension sooner rather than later.

Will free-agent signings fix Minnesota's interior issues?

The weak spots on Minnesota's roster last season were on the interior of the offensive and defensive lines. That's why the Vikings were aggressive in free agency to shore up the trenches. They signed guard Will Fries and center Ryan Kelly to improve the offensive line and added defensive tackles Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave for some much-needed interior pass-rush.

Adofo-Mensah put an emphasis on building up the trenches in 2025. After watching the Philadelphia Eagles dominate both sides of the line of scrimmage on their way to a Super Bowl title, the Vikings are employing a similar team-building game plan.
