Three hottest seats on the New York Jets

For the first half of the 2022 season, Robert Saleh had many believing the New York Jets could potentially make the jump from four wins to the playoffs. But after a 7-4 start to the campaign, the wheels fell off as New York lost its final six games and missed the postseason for the 12th straight year.

Here are the three Jets with the hottest seats in 2023:

1. Nathaniel Hackett, offensive coordinator

As good as Hackett was in Green Bay, he may have damaged his reputation as an offensive whiz with his painful 15-game stint as the head coach of the Denver Broncos this season.

He won’t have a past-his-prime Russell Wilson to work around this fall and New York's running game offers a clear step up over Denver's from last season. Little margin for error, though. If things play out like they did in Denver, Hackett could be one-and-done as the Jets OC.

2. Zach Wilson, QB

This is one is low-hanging fruit. But the fact that Wilson wasn’t traded or outright released shows that the Jets clearly think he’s worth holding onto for at least one more season.

If New York trades for Aaron Rodgers, sitting for a year or two behind a Hall of Fame QB could be a blessing in disguise for Wilson, who would still be just 25 years old should he hold a clipboard for another few years. Jets fans have mostly checked out on Wilson already and a fresh start for all involved may be the way to go. At least for now, the organization looks to be sticking with their young signal-caller.

3. Robert Saleh, head coach

Though he just finished his second season as head coach, Saleh could be under pressure to lead the Jets to playoffs in 2023. Had it not been for a quintet of one-score losses over the final eight weeks of the past season, New York may well have snapped its 12-year playoff drought.

Saleh has drafted well since hitting New York (Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Michael Carter) and he’s gotten the most out of his given roster in a short period of time. If the Jets do manage a trade for Rodgers, all expectations would fall at his feet.
