Three hottest seats on the Tennessee Titans

Following a disappointing 6-11 season, the Tennessee Titans fired head coach Mike Vrabel and brought in offensive-minded Brian Callahan as his successor. Working in tandem with second-year general manager Ran Carthon, Callahan and the Titans are undergoing a culture shift.

Here are three people in the Titans organization who are feeling the most heat:

Wide receiver Treylon Burks

Burks came into the NFL with unrealistic expectations of being a replacement for A.J. Brown, and a battle with asthma and lingering injuries have kept him from living up to his predraft hype. The Titans need more than the 49 receptions, 665 yards and one touchdown Burks has given them over two seasons as a former first-round pick.

Adding free-agent signing Calvin Ridley pushes Burks even further down the pecking order behind himself and DeAndre Hopkins. If the Titans take another receiver during the draft, Burks could find himself at the bottom of the Titans depth chart when training camp rolls around.

Offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere

It’s clear that upgrading the offensive line is one of the Titans’ top offseason priorities. They’ve already added the top available center in Lloyd Cushenberry plus a lineman in Saahdiq Charles who can play both tackle and guard. The Titans are also expected to take an offensive tackle with the No. 7 overall pick in next month’s draft, likely either Notre Dame’s Joe Alt or Penn State’s Olu Fashanu.

If Dillon Radunz and Chris Hubbard factor into Tennessee’s OT rotation with whoever they take in the draft, Petit-Frere may be forced into a backup role. A clear Vrabel-kind of player, Petite-Frere may not be the best fit in the new-look Titans offense.

Cornerback Caleb Farley

Jeffery Simmons aside, former Titans general manager Jon Robinson’s track record with first-round picks is highly forgettable. Farley was one of those picks, and three years into his Titans tenure, he’s accomplished next to nothing. He tore his ACL during his rookie year, his second season was cut short because of a back injury and he didn’t play during the 2023 season after dealing with lingering back issues.

Tennessee brought in Chidobe Awuzie from Cincinnati, and he’ll likely be the team’s No. 2 CB next to Roger McCreary. The Titans also have Elijah Molden, Tre Avery, Eric Garror and Anthony Kendall, and it’s been reported they’re seriously interested in acquiring Kansas City Chiefs star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. There’s a good chance Farley isn’t on the Titans roster after the draft.

Michael Gallagher

Michael Gallagher is a longtime sports journalist based out of Nashville with a decade of experience covering college football, mixed martial arts and prep sports plus the NFL and NHL — specifically the Tennessee Titans and Nashville Predators. He’s covered several notable sporting events including an AFC Championship game, a Stanley Cup Final, an NHL All-Star Game and an NHL Stadium Series.
