Three low risk, high reward DTs the Buffalo Bills should target
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

As it stands, the Buffalo Bills only have one interior defensive lineman on their roster, and that would be Ed Oliver.

The rest of their defensive tackles are set to be free agents once the new league year starts in mid-March. Buffalo will almost certainly use at least one draft pick on their defensive line, but they should also look at this free agent class.

With several quality defensive tackles available, these are three the Bills should look at signing ahead of the 2024 season.

Javon Kinlaw, San Francisco 49ers

Kinlaw would be a guy that could be utilized as an interior pass rusher. That was his main role with the 49ers, lining up for 322 pass rush snaps compared to 152 run defense snaps, per PFF. Kinlaw is someone the Bills could get on a cheap deal and be a situational rotational piece along the defensive line.

Teair Tart, Houston Texans

Tart would be another really solid veteran to have in the rotation. The former Titan was shockingly released by Tennessee before he was claimed by the Houston Texans. While his production took a step back in 2023, so, too, did the people around him. Tennessee's defense has been in an overall decline for the past two seasons. The Texans utilized him for 28 snaps across their final two regular season games, to which he played respectable. If Buffalo can add him on a respectable deal that won't bust the bank, he would be a very solid addition.

D.J. Reader, Cincinnati Bengals

Reader is coming off a season-ending injury late in 2023, tearing his right quad tendon. Even coming off an injury, he is worth targeting. Reader is one of the most versatile interior defensive linemen in football, and one of the best run stoppers in the NFL. The Bills finished 24th in EPA against the run last year. Bringing in Reader to plug gaps in the middle of the defense would go a long way.
