Three options for Chiefs at biggest area of need

Even though the Kansas City Chiefs recently won their third Super Bowl in five years, they must make roster upgrades. One area that needs improvement is the offensive line.

Protecting superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes is paramount and is something K.C. struggled to do this season. Per Pro Football Reference, they allowed 164 pressures, the fourth-most in the NFL. Here are three O-linemen they should target this offseason.

1. Tyron Smith, OT, Dallas Cowboys

Smith, 33, would be a short-term investment rather than a long-term commitment. However, it could be worthwhile for Kansas City. Pro Football Focus gave him an 83.7 grade, the fourth-best at his position. He also earned a second-team All-Pro nod.

The Chiefs won't have to overpay for the eight-time Pro Bowler. Spotrac estimates his market value is a one-year deal worth $7.4M. The team should have $22.63M in cap room when free agency starts in March.

2. Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma

In his latest mock draft, Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports had the Chiefs take Guyton with the 32nd overall pick. He only started 15 games in four seasons at TCU and Oklahoma, but scouts believe the 6-foot-7, 328-pounder has untapped potential.

"In pass pro, he explodes out of his stance and has the range to cover up speed rushers," wrote NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah. "Overall, Guyton is still a work in progress, but he has elite traits and tools."

Starting LT Donovan Smith — who posted a below-average 55.4 PFF grade in 12 games — enters free agency this offseason. Bringing in a rookie with intriguing upside to replace him isn't unwarranted. Plus, he'll be on a cheaper contract, saving cap space and potentially allowing the Chiefs to sign a wide receiver like Mike Evans or Tee Higgins.

3. Kiran Amegadjie, OT, Yale

According to Tankathon, the Chiefs will take Amegadjie with the 64th overall pick. Although he played at the FCS level, don't dismiss the Ivy League standout who is listed at 6-foot-5, 326 pounds.

"Amegadjie has the physical and athletic tools to develop into a multi-year starting NFL left tackle," wrote Damian Parson of the Draft Network. "He is a candidate to draft and stash for part of his rookie season. The long-term potential is high for Amegadjie."

In three seasons at Yale, he earned a first-team All-Ivy selection in 2022 and an honorable mention in 2021. He only played in four games in 2023 due to a quadriceps injury, yet he posted an outstanding 89.5 PFF grade. He's a potential steal.
