Three potential landing spots for former Broncos Pro Bowl safety

On Thursday, the Broncos released two-time Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons, who will immediately become one of the top free agents, nonetheless safeties, on the open market.

The 30-year-old should have several suitors as no player has had more interceptions (30) than him since he entered the league in 2016.

Here are three landing spots that make the most sense.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles had some serious issues on the back end of their defense in 2023, allowing the second-most passing yards per game (252.7) in the league.

Simmons, who's coming off a Pro Bowl season in which he had 70 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, three interceptions and eight passes defensed, would help prevent that from happening again.

Simmons' defensive backs coach from Denver, Christian Parker, is also now in Philadelphia, which could help entice him to head to the City of Brotherly Love on top of the Eagles' $41.9 million in cap space.

Las Vegas Raiders

Simmons has spent the first eight years of his NFL career in the AFC West, so why not continue doing so and have the opportunity to face your former team twice a year?

The Las Vegas defense took massive strides at the end of the 2023 season and adding Simmons to it could make the team even more formidable in 2024.

Plus, the Raiders have $41.6 million in cap space to upgrade the position and pair Simmons with safety Tre'von Moehrig, who had 83 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions and eight passes defensed last season.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are certainly a team on the rise after nearly making the playoffs with Gardner Minshew at quarterback in 2023.

Anthony Richardson, who is set to take back over as the starter, will allow Indianapolis to invest in its defense as he is heading into only the second year of his rookie deal.

General manager Chris Ballard has several holes to fill in the secondary and finding two starting-caliber safeties could be near the top of the list.

Julian Blackmon is set to hit the open market and Nick Cross has yet to live up to expectations. The team's $49.2 million in cap space will help out with that.
