Sitting at 2-5, the Las Vegas Raiders enter the bye week with a serious task at hand.
With the trade deadline on Nov. 4, the Raiders stand out as a definite seller. However, they clearly are not committed to stripping the team to the studs and engaging in a full-scale rebuild, as evidenced by the Raiders confirming that they will not be trading Maxx Crosby. However, for players whose futures are far less certain after this season, securing extra draft picks in their place would help the Raiders continue their youth movement.
Here are three players who could very well be on their way out of Las Vegas before the Raiders return to the field.
Meyers is the most obvious name for the Raiders to move at the deadline, and it feels more as though the team should consider giving the veteran wide receiver his wish.
Meyers requested a trade during the preseason after he and the team could not agree to a contract extension, and that feeling has not dissipated. It feels as though this will be the veteran’s final season in Las Vegas, so the Raiders no longer have any incentive to keep him. Meyers has not had the role the Raiders envisioned on offense, either, with Geno Smith establishing more of a rapport with Tre Tucker.
Add giving more playing time to Dont’e Thornton Jr. and Jack Bech, and Meyers feels like the most high-profile Raider who will be moving on.
A free agent signing from this past offseason, Roberts was tasked with shoring up the run defense of the Raiders.
While the Raiders have been okay in that department, it appears as though the team is valuing linebackers with more versatility than Roberts provides. Devin White and Jamal Adams have both been revelations in Las Vegas so far, and the Raiders can afford to give more snaps to younger players such as Tommy Eichenberg and Cody Lindenberg to see what they can do. While that does not bode well for Roberts, run-stuffing linebackers are always in some type of demand this time of year, even if the value is not always there.
For a team looking for additional linebacker depth to bolster their postseason hopes, they can do worse than Roberts.
Another free agent signing, Mostert has done alright in the limited carries he has gotten, averaging five yards per carry.
That said, the Raiders have looked more content to feed Ashton Jeanty than earlier in the season, and the remainder of the running back room is nowhere near as enticing. Zamir White has not done nearly as much (and almost found himself on this list instead), while Dylan Laube is someone the Raiders are hoping to feature more in the lineup. With teams around the league looking for running back depth, Mostert’s standing as a proven veteran and expiring contract make him the most likely candidate to move.
