Former Apple CEO Tim Cook has been named among potential buyers hoping to secure a pathway into NFL ownership.
Cook and Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg are said to be among four billionaires who have expressed interest in buying the Seattle Seahawks.
“At least four potential majority buyers have expressed interest, including two very familiar names: tech titans Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg and Apple’s Tim Cook, who recently announced he will step down as CEO and become EVP of the company’s board of directors,” Front Office Sports reports.
“Five sources familiar with the matter tell Front Office Sports they’ve heard Zuckerberg is considering a bid, while four say Cook is separately weighing an offer,” the publication added.
FOS also notes that “the identities of the other two potential bidders were not clear, nor was it known whether any formal offers had been made.”
Representatives for Cook could not be reached, while the Paul G. Allen estate declined to comment.
The Seahawks went for sale just 10 days after winning the Super Bowl. They are valued between $8-$10 billion and are widely expected to sell for more than the Washington Commanders did in 2023 ($6.05 billion).
Any sale would require approval from at least three-quarters of the NFL’s owners.
Cook has been Apple’s CEO for 15 years. He is set to step down from his role on September 1, 2026 and transition to executive chairman.
The 65-year-old joined the tech giants as senior vice president of worldwide operations in 1998. He succeeded Steve Jobs as CEO in 2011.
Market cap growth went from $350 billion to over $4 trillion in 2025 under his watch. Sales also quadrupled from $108 billion in 2011 to $416 billion in 2025.
The Apple Watch, AirPods and the acquisition of Beats are among several profitable moves he oversaw as CEO of the company.
According to Forbes, Zuckerberg’s net worth dwarfs Cook’s at over $206 billion to $2.9 billion.
