Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan heard boos and chants of "fire Callahan" from members of the home crowd during what became a 41-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday that dropped the Titans to 0-3 on the season.
Following that defeat, Callahan insisted he won't be losing any sleep about paying customers calling for his dismissal.
"I don't really worry about that to be honest," Callahan said about the hot-seat chatter regarding his status, per Turron Davenport of ESPN. "My focus is on trying to make sure our football team is in as good a place as possible, and the rest of that stuff is what it is. I don't think about those things, and you really can't. I mean, this is hard enough as it is to put those other things and think about that. It doesn't do anybody any good. So, I just go to work and work as hard as I can. I put as much effort as I can into this, and that is what it is."
An August report shared that Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk considered "cleaning house and sending Callahan on his way along with" former general manager Ran Carthon, following Tennessee's 3-14 season this past January. Callahan, instead, was given an opportunity to work with and develop rookie quarterback Cam Ward after the Titans made Ward the first overall pick of this year's draft.
In total, Callahan now has a woeful 3-17 record as Titans head coach. Meanwhile, Pro Football Reference shows that Ward began Monday ranked last in the league among qualified players with a 19.8 adjusted QBR and a 54.5 percent completion percentage for the season. He tossed two touchdown passes and one interception over the campaign's first three weeks.
"I'm not really too worried about that," Ward said about fans voicing their frustrations at Nissan Stadium on Sunday afternoon. "We ain't do enough to win the game today. If I was them, I'd be mad too. I'm trying to win football games the same as them. So, if that's what they're going to do, we've got to lock in as a group in the locker room and continue to motivate each other, push each other and try to get a win."
As of Monday morning, ESPN BET had the Titans as 6.5-point road underdogs for this coming Sunday's matchup at the 0-3 Houston Texans. Such a line suggests certain NFL insiders feel things will get worse for Callahan and Co. before they possibly improve.
