Titans Could Trade K Joey Slye?

According to Jason La Canfora, “a smart GM” is going to land Titans K Joey Slye in a trade, as he carries just a $2 million cap hit on an expiring deal.

The veteran kicker has made 38 of 36 attempts over the last two years with Tennessee along with 36 of 37 extra point attempts. La Canfora pointed to the kicking chaos around the league as to why Slye could be on the move.

He brings up the Packers because of rookie Trey Smack‘s struggles, along with the 49ers and Rams as logical landing spots.

San Francisco recently extended Eddy Pineiro, but he has missed a kick in each of the last four games. The Rams are already on their third kicker this year in Brandon McManus after cutting Harrison Mevis and losing Blake Grupe to a torn ACL.

La Canfora also thinks the Eagles will try to sell off some contracts while adding pieces to help win the division this year, though a Week 7 loss to fall to 2-5 could change that tune a bit.

Slye, 30, signed with the Giants after going undrafted out of Virginia Tech following the 2019 NFL Draft. He was waived in May before being brought back in July and waived again.

Slye caught on with the Panthers as a camp leg but ended up taking the starting job after K Graham Gano landed on injured reserve. He re-signed with the team and then signed a one-year extension in January 2021 that would have made him a free agent in 2022.

However, the Panthers cut Slye coming out of the preseason and he caught on with the Texans as an injury replacement. He also had a stint with the 49ers in the same capacity. Washington then signed him to be their primary kicker after they released K Dustin Hopkins.

Slye returned on one-year contracts for two seasons. He was testing the market as an unrestricted free agent when he signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars but was cut a month later, at which point he signed with the Patriots for the 2024 season.

The Titans signed Slye to a one-year deal for each of the last two seasons.

In 2026, Slye has appeared in seven games for the Titans and converted 10 of 11 field goal attempts and 10 of 10 extra point tries.
