Titans, G Peter Skoronski Discussing Extension

The Ran Carthon/Chad Brinker-era first-round pick has engaged in discussions (via TitanInsider.com’s Terry McCormick) about a second contract — one that would be authorized by GM Mike Borgonzi, who labeled the talks “positive.” Borgonzi said at the Combine a Skoronski extension would be prioritized, and the team negotiating with the fourth-year guard early signals a possible first for the organization could be ahead.

Since the Titans exercised Skoronski’s option ($19.07MM), he is under contract for two more seasons. Three teams have already authorized extension for 2023 first-rounders — the Seahawks (Jaxon Smith-Njigba), Texans (Will Anderson Jr.) and Eagles (Jalen Carter) — but the Titans have never acted early in this fashion during the option era (2011-present). Tennessee has extended first-round picks in that time, paying 2014 first-rounder Taylor Lewan and 2019 first-rounder Jeffery Simmons, but each deal occurred ahead of those players’ fifth NFL offseason.

A Skoronski extension would mark a positive step for a franchise that has an extensive history of first-round stumbles. Lewan and Simmons are the only Titan first-rounders to sign extensions over the past 16 years. Jake Locker, Kendall Wright, Chance Warmack, Marcus Mariota, Jack Conklin, Corey Davis, Rashaan Evans, Isaiah Wilson, Caleb Farley and Treylon Burks were one-contract Titans.

The No. 11 overall pick in 2023, Skoronski made the successful transition from college tackle to NFL guard. Tennessee’s left guard has missed only three career games, playing all 17 contests in 2024 and ’25. Pro Football Focus viewed Skoronski as making a big leap last season, ranking him fifth among guards (second in pass blocking). ESPN’s pass block win rate metric slotted Skoronski seventh in 2025. The Northwestern alum is in prime position to land an extension.

After cutting Lloyd Cushenberry this offseason, Tennessee has one big-ticket O-line contract on its payroll (for LT Dan Moore Jr.). The guarantees on that four-year deal will be paid out by season’s end. Tyler Smith‘s $24MM-per-year Cowboys contract tops the guard market, but Tyler Linderbaum resetting the center ceiling (now at $27MM AAV) provides a complication for teams negotiating extensions with guards. The Titans have time on the Skoronski front, but the guard market will be expected to rise after the Raiders completed their outlier Linderbaum deal.
