Nearly six weeks remain until the draft, but the Titans will be the team that shapes it. While connected to heavy trade-down rumors weeks ago, Tennessee may not be as eager to do so coming out of free agency’s first wave.
The Titans let Mason Rudolph walk and have not added competition for Will Levis. Rather than competition, a true replacement could be coming in the draft. Momentum about a Titans trade-down move has stalled, as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said (during a recent Dan Patrick Show appearance) teams are now expecting them to stay put and draft Cam Ward at No. 1 overall.
Ward’s Titans interviews have gone well thus far, per Fowler, who labels the team “pretty comfortable” with the well-traveled QB prospect. Moving from Incarnate Word to Washington State to Miami, Ward has gained steam during the pre-draft process. He is viewed as having separated from Shedeur Sanders, with the question at QB being who will be the second one chosen.
Before free agency, Ward supporters existed in Tennessee’s building. Considering how poorly Levis’ second season went, it always loomed as a significant risk for the Titans to pass on using a No. 1 pick on a replacement. Ward has not been viewed on the level as Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter as a pure prospect, which also runs the risk of the Titans choosing the wrong year to make their QB investment. While the Titans would miss out on adding a potential impact starter by passing on their choice of those two, another year of Levis does not seem in the cards for the AFC South team.
Talk of Tennessee wanting to transition away from Levis has emerged, The Exhibit’s Josina Anderson adds. After trading up to No. 33 for Levis in 2023, the Titans sat Ryan Tannehill for the Kentucky prospect midseason. Levis showed some early promise, but turnovers plagued him during a sophomore setback. Levis’ 27.8 QBR was nearly 11 points worse than the next-closest regular last season, sinking the benched QB’s value during an offseason that brought more front office change.
The GM that drafted Levis (Ran Carthon) is out after just two years, and although Chad Brinker was onboard as assistant GM when the Titans made that trade-up, the new team president obviously is not as closely tied to the passer. New GM Mike Borgonzi will also run this draft for Tennessee, which is attempting to find stability after a turbulent few years.
While trade-up calls have emerged, the quarterback market not yet crystalizing — thanks largely to Aaron Rodgers‘ delay — figures to stall at least one team. The Giants were linked to Ward early and have been mentioned as targeting the top pick, but Fowler points to that being a less likely move now that the Titans appear closer to staying put and taking the QB at 1.
Daniel Jeremiah’s third NFL.com mock draft for this year pegs Ward to the Titans at 1, while Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest offering does as well. Ward will follow Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix in seeing a transfer ignite his draft stock. He has already met with the Titans at the Combine and on a “30” visit. It will be unlikely if Tennessee’s decision this year will be as anticlimactic as Chicago’s Caleb Williams call in 2024 was, but rumors are circulating early about Ward being Tennessee’s next QB solution.

Three teams that should take a flier on Odell Beckham Jr. for the 2025 season
Former New York Giants superstar and current free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. emerged in the headlines on Tuesday afternoon. The 32-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) to shut down a fake report that he was retiring from the NFL. Beckham spent the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins in a very limited role, recording just nine receptions for 55 yards in nine games. However, he was a solid contributor as a Baltimore Raven the year prior, showing that he can still provide some production at this point in his career. Given that OBJ has no interest in calling it quits just yet, let’s look at three teams that should take a shot on the three-time Pro Bowler to see how much juice he’s got left in him. New York Giants How about a reunion in the Big Apple? It would only be fitting for Beckham to finish his career in the place where it all started. Superstar wide receiver Malik Nabers runs the show on offense, but after that, there are plenty of question marks. Wide receivers Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton slot in as solid options behind Nabers, but it would not hurt to add a veteran like Beckham into the mix. He knows what it's like playing in such a big market and could mentor the Giants' young offensive weapons while providing some depth production when called upon. Las Vegas Raiders There may not be a team with more of a need at the wide receiver position than the Las Vegas Raiders. The targets are understandably funneled to superstar tight end Brock Bowers and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, but they need help beyond those two. Third-year wide receiver Tre Tucker and rookie wideouts Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton Jr. are next in line. While those three may play big roles right from the start, the Raiders could certainly use another experienced pass-catcher, and Beckham is a nice option to fill that role. Perhaps he even shows himself to be worthy of the WR2 spot. Buffalo Bills The third team that could be in play for Beckham is the Buffalo Bills. With Josh Allen in his prime, they need to continue putting weapons around him whenever possible. Second-year wide receiver Keon Coleman and free-agent signing Joshua Palmer are atop the depth chart in Buffalo, while reliable wideout Khalil Shakir is nicked up with an ankle injury. Longtime Carolina Panthers receiver Curtis Samuel also remains in the mix but is dealing with a hamstring ailment and has had injury woes in the past. Outside of Shakir, it's hard to know what you're going to get from the rest of the position group. Beckham will likely want to join a contender or somewhere he can play more of a factor than he did with the Dolphins in 2024-25, so keep an eye on the Bills.
Shohei Ohtani named in lawsuit regarding $240M real estate project
Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has been named in a lawsuit that was filed in Hawaii on Friday. Ohtani and his agent, Nez Balelo, are being sued by a real estate investor and a broker in Hawaii who have accused Ohtani and Balelo of sabotaging a $240M real estate deal for a development on the Big Island. According to court documents that were obtained by Jimmy Golen of The Associated Press, real estate developer Kevin J. Hayes Sr. and real estate broker Tomoko Matsumoto say Ohtani and Balelo deliberately had them removed from the project “for no reason other than their own financial self-interest.” The lawsuit claims Ohtani was brought into the deal for his promotional value and that he and his agent pushed the founders of the project out using “threats and baseless legal claims.” “Defendants must be held accountable for their actions, not shielded by fame or behind-the-scenes agents acting with impunity,” the lawsuit states. “Plaintiffs bring this suit to expose Defendants’ misconduct and to ensure that the rules of contract, fair dealing, and accountability apply equally to all — celebrity or not.” Hayes and Matsumoto have also accused Ohtani and Balelo of trying to push them out of a similar neighboring development project. The $240M Big Island development is located along Hapuna Beach, which is rated one of the top beaches in the world. Matsumoto was supposed to be the listing agent for the properties, which average more than $17.3M each. A brochure for the project stated that Ohtani, who was called “Japan’s Babe Ruth” has committed to buying one of the 14 properties and acting as a “celebrity spokesperson” for the development. Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700M contract with the Dodgers prior to the 2024 season. The two-way star is having another monster year with a .284 average, 42 home runs, 78 RBI and a 1.013 OPS entering Tuesday. Ohtani has also returned to pitching this season and has a 2.37 ERA across 19 innings. Ohtani was also connected to a massive gambling scandal last year, though Major League Baseball determined that the 31-year-old was not guilty of any wrongdoing.
Notre Dame believed to be trending toward surprise choice at quarterback
The quarterback battle for Notre Dame is set to come to an end shortly, and it might be a surprise considering how the national media predicted the race to finish. Per Eric Hansen of On3, head coach Marcus Freeman is set to name the starting quarterback by Sunday when he meets the media. The Irish are still letting the quarterback battle play out until then, but it appears sophomore quarterback Kenny Minchey is the favorite to start at Hard Rock Stadium against the Miami Hurricanes on Aug. 31. Minchey has shown improvement in numerous areas throughout camp, and he has the edge on freshman quarterback CJ Carr in what is believed to be the final week of the competition. "As of Wednesday, the line between 1 and 2 remained blurred," Hansen wrote. "The tiebreaker may eventually go to Minchey, per the source, because of his ability to be a true running threat and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock’s preference to have that element to put pressure on opposing defenses. "But he also has a preference for QBs who can transcend adversity, and the training camp phase was choreographed to test precisely that. While both contenders responded persistently in a manner that defies their inexperience, Minchey has been exceptional in that regard." Throughout the summer, ESPN writers such as Bill Connelly and Mark Schlabach have written as though it were a forgone conclusion that Carr would win the battle in training camp. However, Minchey appears to be a natural fit for how offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock likes to scheme against a defense. He helped dual-threat Jayden Daniels earn a Heisman Trophy in 2023 and took Notre Dame to a national championship appearance with Riley Leonard. The battle isn't over, but the edge appears to be running Minchey's way.
Landon Dickerson injury update: Timeline for Eagles OL return revealed after surgery
The Philadelphia Eagles lost a key piece of their offense in training camp when starting center Landon Dickerson went down with a knee injury. Now, he has reportedly undergone surgery on Wednesday, August 13th, for the meniscus injury that he suffered. There is positive news in all of this for the Eagles, though. The injury could have been worse. Dickerson avoided what would be considered a major injury. Because of that, there is hope that he can return to the field sometime early in the season. For now, no return to action is set in stone. After all, everyone recovers from injuries and surgeries at a different speed. Naturally, the Eagles are also going to be careful to prevent any further injury, but it’s good news for the defending Super Bowl champions overall. Previously, it was reported that Dickerson would be considered week-to-week with the injury. The surgery was also described as a “minor procedure,” going into it, and there had been some hope that he could even be ready to go in Week 1. Landon Dickerson was carted off the field from practice on Sunday night. The immediate concern was that he suffered an injury to his right meniscus. This was during an open practice, and it tempered the atmosphere inside the facility while Philadelphia prepped for the season. Dickerson first came to Philadelphia as a second round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. That came after he had been a star in the college game at Alabama. Since getting to professional football, Dickerson has been named to the Pro Bowl three times and was the starting center on last year’s Super Bowl winning team. He moved to center from guard following the retirement of Jason Kelce, a longtime star in his own right. Dickerson signed a four-year, $84 million contract extension with the Eagles in March of 2024. At the time, it made him the highest-paid guard in history. It also signaled the time for him to step into a larger leadership role on the offense. The Philadelphia Eagles are going into the 2025 season looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions. They’ll open that defense on September 4th for their Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys, a division rival. Before that, the Eagles do have two more preseason games, neither of which Landon Dickerson is expected to play in at all. Philadelphia won’t have its bye week until Week 9.
