The Tennessee Titans were the worst team in the NFL this season but have a chance to turn things around quickly. The team hired former Kansas City Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi to serve as their new general manager and he has a chance to bring some players along with him.
The highest priority free agent for the Chiefs this offseason is Pro Bowl guard Trey Smith. He's developed into one of their most important offensive linemen but with the market for guards getting bigger and bigger, they may not be able to afford him.
The Titans are projected to have plenty of salary cap space this offseason and Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report is predicting that Borgonzi lands Smith in free agency.
"For one, Tennessee has $50.3 million in projected cap space and recently hired Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi to be its general manager," Knox wrote. "Secondly, the Titans are expected to find a new quarterback in 2025 and need to protect him. Pairing Smith with 2023 first-round pick Peter Skoronski at guard would give Tennessee a strong foundation along its offensive interior.
"It's also worth noting Smith played his college ball with the Tennessee Volunteers, making a partnership with the Titans a homecoming of sorts for the 2024 Pro Bowler."
If the Chiefs win another Super Bowl in the coming weeks, that would mean Smith would have a chance at four-straight championships next season. That could be enough for him to take a discount but a team like the Titans might be willing to make him the highest-paid guard in the NFL. That'll be difficult to say no to.
