Tennessee Titans star running back and Most Valuable Player candidate Derrick Henry suffered a concerning foot injury that could threaten the rest of his season in this past Sunday's overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts that improved the Titans to 6-2 on the season.
It was known Monday Henry would require a procedure following this setback, and ESPN's Dianna Russini reports the 27-year-old had foot surgery on Tuesday morning that "went well."
As Charean Williams explained for Pro Football Talk, Titans coach Mike Vrabel told reporters Monday there's a chance Henry could return to the lineup at some point during the season or the playoffs. Williams adds Henry, the reigning two-time rushing champion, is on track to miss at least eight weeks of action.
Per ESPN stats, Henry leads the NFL with 937 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, and 219 carries.
The Titans responded to losing Henry by signing veteran and future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson to their practice squad. Peterson could be elevated to the main roster for this Sunday's matchup at the Los Angeles Rams.
