Titans' Ryan Tannehill moving on from Saints loss

Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill is putting his performance during this past Sunday's 16-15 loss at the New Orleans Saints behind him as quickly as possible.

Per Turron Davenport of ESPN, Tannehill told reporters Wednesday he wants "to move on" to the Week 2 home game versus the 0-1 Los Angeles Chargers.

"I'm not going to answer any more questions about what happened Sunday," Tannehill continued. "I'm not happy about it. No one in this building's happy about it, but at the end of the day, it's over."

Tannehill completed 16 of 34 pass attempts for 198 yards with zero touchdowns and three interceptions in the one-point defeat and missed open wide receivers on multiple occasions. Titans head coach Mike Vrabel revealed on Monday he couldn't explain why Tannehill played so poorly in the regular-season opener, although Vrabel added at that time that Tennessee needed to give the 35-year-old signal-caller "cleaner pockets" moving forward.

"I told Ryan to keep slinging it," Titans right guard Daniel Brunskill remarked. "Some of those were on us. Defenders were in his face when he was trying to make a throw and it's not easy to step into a throw and beam it to the sideline."

Tannehill is in the final year of his contract and could become surplus to requirements with the Titans if they have a losing record ahead of the Oct. 31 trade deadline. 2022 third-round draft pick Malik Willis and 2023 second-round draft selection Will Levis share the quarterback room with Tannehill and will eventually need opportunities to show what they can do against live defenses in meaningful games.

"I'm totally confident in myself and my abilities and the guys around me," Tannehill insisted. "I think that's what it comes down to -- trusting yourself, trusting the guys around you, and then being able to make those plays when they come."

As recently as Wednesday, Tannehill was named as a possible option for the 1-0 New York Jets after they lost Aaron Rodgers to a season-ending torn Achilles on Monday night. Tannehill will have to play much better down the road than he did against New Orleans if he wants to feature for a contender of any kind this fall.
