Why is Shedeur Sanders still on the board heading into Day 3 of the NFL Draft? Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay has a good reason why.
Sanders was considered the No. 2 quarterback prospect prior to the NFL Draft, or at least that's what we thought. However, we've seen Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe and Dillon Gabriel come off the board before him.
Prior to the first round of the NFL Draft, McShay said Sanders wouldn't be in consideration for the No. 3 pick with the New York Giants due to a rough meeting with head coach Brian Daboll.
"Shedeur’s not in play with the New York Giants, as far as I’m told," McShay said. "An install package came in. Preparation wasn’t there for it. Got called out on it, didn’t like that. Brian (Daboll) didn’t appreciate him not liking it."
McShay wasn't done sharing more information about Sanders' behavior behind the scenes.
According to McShay, there were two quarterback-needy teams that had rough interviews with Sanders. That probably led to them going in different directions.
"There were two teams drafting in the top-10 with quarterback needs where the interviews did not go well," McShay continued. "It wasn't disrespectful, it was nothing harsh. [Teams] didn't get the sense that Shedeur cared all that much what they thought of him."
Before people slam McShay for this reporting, just know that he's not the only reliable person who has said Sanders flunked his interviews.
Vic Tafur of The Athletic said Sanders' interviews with NFL teams went "very badly" leading up to the draft.
"Given Shedeur's strong ties to Tom Brady, Raiders passing on him at 37, 48 and 58 only validates other teams' reservations/doubts about the QB," Tafur wrote on X. "Said it back at the combine - his interviews (including board work) went very badly."
Sanders has not commented on all of the negative reports that are out there. Perhaps he's waiting to get drafted first.
If Sanders truly botched his pre-draft interviews, that's a shame. Regardless of your opinion of him, there's no question he has talent.
