Tom Brady addresses what 2-8 Patriots are lacking this season

Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady suggested the 2-8 club is missing one big thing during what could be Bill Belichick's final season as the organization's head coach.

"You’ve got to change your strategy, different weeks there’s different challenges, and I think the Patriots, they’re just having a tough stretch, just not playing with the kind of confidence that you’ve always seen," Brady said during Monday's edition of his "Let's Go!" SiriusXM show and podcast, per Ethan Fuller of the Boston Globe. "Obviously coach Belichick, I don’t think he’s coaching any different now than the way he coached when we were undefeated. There’s a lot of things that need to go right in order to win and succeed."

Certain sources allegedly close to the Patriots left little doubt over the past week that at least some within the organization (and maybe inside the locker room) blame quarterback Mac Jones for the team's lackluster record and play. As noted by ESPN stats, the Patriots entered their bye week ranked 26th in the NFL with an average of 294.5 offensive yards per game and 31st with a woeful average of 14.1 points per contest.

On Tuesday, Belichick avoided discussing if he'll keep Jones atop the depth chart for New England's matchup at the New York Giants (2-8) on Nov. 26.

"The more I sit back and watch — everyone wants to celebrate when you win as an organization; everyone’s responsible," Brady continued. "And the same’s true, everyone’s responsible when you lose, too. Everyone can’t be on the bus when you win and be off the bus when you lose and [say], 'Let’s point the finger at one person.' When you look at losing, the organization loses, the fan base loses; everyone’s in it together."

It's thought Patriots owner Robert Kraft will allow Belichick to finish the season that could end with the club holding a high draft pick and an opportunity to acquire either USC Trojans star Caleb Williams or Drake Maye of the North Carolina Tar Heels next spring. While some wondered in October if Brady could end his second retirement to save the Patriots, the 46-year-old seems content serving as Fox's lead NFL analyst beginning next fall.
