Tom Brady destroys NY Jets fans during statue unveiling speech

As any true Bostonian would, Tom Brady cannot help but continue throwing shade at New Yorkers – even in retirement.

During a speech at the unveiling of his new statue outside Gillette Stadium, the longtime New York Jets nemesis took a direct shot at fans of his former rival.

“But in the end, this statue isn’t just for Pats fans. It’ll also give all the Jets fans something to throw their beers at as they leave the stadium every year,” Brady said.

“Probably in the second quarter. Maybe the third.”

As much as Jets fans may despise the FOX commentator, this is a difficult jab to counter. Brave souls who made the 200-plus-mile trek from East Rutherford to Foxborough have seldom left happy over the past decade and a half.

Dating back to 2009, the Jets are 1-14 over their last 15 road games against the Patriots (in the regular season), with the lone victory being a snow-covered 17-3 slugfest in a meaningless finale to the 2023 season.

Even the exclamation point to Brady’s punchline is accurate. Many of those games felt “over” in the second quarter – enough for fans to contemplate storming out of the stadium.

Across New England’s last 14 home wins against New York, the Patriots won by an average margin of 18.4 points, racking up a total scoring margin of 457-200. This includes colossal beatdowns by scores of 45-3 (2009), 41-3 (2016), and 54-13 (2021).

The Jets’ last meaningful win in Massachusetts came on January 16, 2011, when Mark Sanchez led a 28-21 upset over a 14-win Patriots team in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs. Their last regular season win of substance was in Week 11 of the 2008 season, when Brett Favre completed 79% of his passes to lead a 34-31 overtime win over a Matt Cassel-led Pats team.

Jets fans will get their first opportunity to shout obscenities at Brady’s new statue on November 13, when New York heads up I-95 for a Week 11 divisional battle on Thursday Night Football.
