Tom Brady ‘excited’ for Josh Gordon’s return, but taking it ‘day-to-day’

Josh Gordon was reinstated from his indefinite suspension by the NFL last week, and Tom Brady unsurprisingly is eager for the wide receiver to rejoin the New England Patriots.

That said, Brady pointed out that there will be some transition time before Gordon is back up to speed, so the veteran quarterback is downplaying the situation at this point.

Making an appearance on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Tuesday, Brady mentioned he learned of Gordon’s reinstatement just like everyone else.

“That’s kind of the way it works in the NFL,” Brady said. “There’s not a lot of information that comes out.”

“Obviously everyone is excited to have him back, and we’ll just take it day-to-day.”

The Patriots placed Gordon on the non-football injury (NFI) list on Monday, and the wide receiver cannot practice with the team until he comes off of it. Further, should Gordon still be on the NFI list on Aug. 31, he will have to sit out the first six weeks of the season.

Gordon’s reinstatement is on a conditional basis, as noted by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who added in a statement that the wideout can attend team meetings and “engage in conditioning work and individual workouts.”

Given Gordon’s troubled history, with the latest setback coming when he was indefinitely suspended by the NFL last December, it makes sense that Brady, like Bill Belichick before him, was guarded in his comments about the wide receiver.

Further, the fact that Brady did not have much to say about Gordon’s departure from the team last season also reinforces the notion that the Patriots will continue to temper their expectations and won’t get ahead of themselves when it comes to what lies ahead for the wide receiver in 2019.
