Tom Brady has big warning for Jalen Hurts, Eagles

Tom Brady had a lot of skills as a quarterback that made him one of the best players in NFL history. One of his most overlooked might have been his ability to successfully pull off quarterback sneaks. If it was a short-yardage situation, he was almost unstoppable in getting that one yard.

With that knowledge, he has some words of advice — and potentially a warning — for quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles for their usage of the "tush push."

The Eagles have completely revolutionized the quarterback sneak in the modern game by lining up in a tight formation and literally pushing Hurts forward. Over the past two seasons, they have run it more than 30 times with a 92 percent success rate. They are so good at it that there has even been talk of banning the play in the NFL.

But with no other team able to pull it off as consistently and successfully as the Eagles, it still remains.

Brady sees some potential long-term issues with it and thinks the Eagles might need to make an adjustment.

He addressed that topic on his "Let's Go" podcast (h/t A to Z Sports).

"The only thing I worry about in that particular play is they all know what's coming when you line up in formation and that quarterback is going to take a lot of shots," he said. "I don't know how many times you want your quarterback taking shots. So yeah, it's effective for a one-yard gain but it might be ineffective someday when someone hits a right shoulder of the quarterback because they know it's coming. So you may have some short-term gain, you may have some long-term pain."

He went on to add that in order to help preserve Hurts' health, they might need to make some sort of adjustment to how the play is run in order to make it less predictable, or simply not run it as often.

Other teams have tried to work it into their play-calling this season, but the Eagles are the only team to make it work so consistently. It is not just Hurts' strength or the pushing that makes it work. The Eagles offensive line is also outstanding at getting a surge forward on the line of scrimmage.

Brady's words are certainly fair, and come from an area of expertise, but until Hurts actually gets injured or it starts failing them, it seems unlikely that they are going to stop doing it anytime soon.
