Tom Brady jokes about reunion with Julian Edelman after WR's retirement

Tom Brady encouraged Rob Gronkowski to come out of retirement. He could get Julian Edelman to lace them up again, too.

During Thursday night's NFL Draft-a-Thon, Deion Sanders said he couldn't believe Edelman retired without catching one more pass from Brady. The seven-time Super Bowl champion raised some eyebrows with his response to Sanders.

"We know Julian didn't retire, let's be honest. He's just too scared to tell Bill (Belichick) he wants to come to Tampa."

Brady and Edelman played together from 2009 to 2019 before the quarterback left for Tampa Bay. Edelman only played in six games in 2020 due to injury and announced his retirement on April 12.

It's unlikely Edelman and Brady reunite in Tampa Bay this season. The Buccaneers have Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown and Scotty Miller on the roster entering the 2021 campaign. Signing Edelman would be a difficult task.

Edelman is also content with his retirement. The soon-to-be 35-year-old said during a recent appearance on Barstool Sports' "Pardon My Take" podcast that he had no problem retiring from the NFL because he "enjoyed" the time that he spent in the league.
