Tom Brady not signing one-day contract to retire with Patriots?

There was always bound to be some misinformation linked with the inevitable retirement of legendary quarterback Tom Brady. Some assumed reports from Friday and Saturday claiming the seven-time Super Bowl champion was ready to ride off into the sunset were inaccurate, but such stories were ultimately proven correct when Brady made his historic announcement Tuesday morning.

As Tom E. Curran noted for NBC Boston, more than a few people were upset Brady omitted any mention of the New England Patriots from his initial retirement statement. Brady was famously selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft and won his first six titles with that organization before he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, and some either speculated or falsely reported via social media the 44-year-old would sign a one-day contract so he could retire attached to his former employer.

Per NESN's Zack Cox and Olivia DaRocha of ABC6, Patriot Place Public Relations has confirmed that there are no plans for Brady to sign a one-day retirement contract with the Patriots or for a ceremony to be held in his honor on Wednesday.

"There is not any truth to the reports of a ceremony taking place on site tomorrow," a spokesperson said.

For what it's worth, Brady has acknowledged his two decades with the Patriots via multiple posts shared on his Instagram story throughout Tuesday, and team owner Robert Kraft expressed his gratitude to the future Hall of Famer via a heartfelt statement.

Brady might eventually return to the Patriots in one way or another, but such a return isn't imminent.
