Tom Brady on potential NFL return: ‘I’m not opposed to it’

Tom Brady is not ruling out a return to the NFL despite retiring after the 2022 season. While appearing on DeepCut with VicBlends, the seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback was asked if he would make a comeback if a team lost its starting QB late in the year.

“I’m not opposed to it,” Brady said. “I don’t know if they’re going to let me, if I become an owner of an NFL team, I don’t know. I’m always going to be in good shape, always going to be able to throw the ball. So, to come in for a little bit, like MJ coming back, I don’t know if they’d let me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”

Brady has been asked about a comeback multiple after announcing his retirement in February 2023. He has downplayed a potential return since he already made a comeback in 2022 after announcing his retirement earlier in the year. And as Brady mentioned, he likely could not play return as a player if he becomes a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders due to a conflict of interest.

What about Tom Brady’s broadcasting gig?

Another aspect of this is that Brady has a deal with Fox Sports as the lead NFL analyst starting this fall. Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS Sports NFL analyst Tony Romo recently told The Athletic he has been helping Brady prepare for the new job.

“Just two buddies talking football,” Romo said. “I’m excited for him. Tom will exhaust every resource to be as good at this as anybody. I think me and him have similar traits in that we’re going to try and work as hard as humanly possible to be as good as we can be at anything that we care about. He’s doing that. I think it was a genius decision by him to wait a year coming out and prepare himself. He’s going to do a great job. I think he’s going to be outstanding.”

Brady played for the New England Patriots from 2000-2019 and won six Super Bowls with the squad. He then played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2020-2022 and helped the team win a Super Bowl during his first season.

In his career, Brady threw for an NFL record 89,214 yards, 649 touchdowns and has a passer rating of 97.2. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl 15 times, the All-Pro Team six times, and has won a total of eight Super Bowl and NFL MVP awards.
