Tom Brady on Retirement: “Take It Day-By-Day”

Tom Brady has nothing more to prove.

That statement has rung true for several years now. However, upon the completion of his 22nd season, second with the Buccaneers, there is some question as to whether or not this is the last we will see of the seven-time Super Bowl champion and greatest quarterback of all time.

Brady was asked about potentially retiring following the Bucs 30-27 loss to the Rams in the divisional round.

“I haven’t put a lot of thought into it. So we’ll take it day by day and see where we’re at.”

For the first time, it is reasonable to wonder if Brady will call it a career. He will be 45 by the time the 2022 season kicks off in September and certainly has nothing to add to his legacy at this point.

However, after a season in which he was arguable still the best quarterback in the league and led the NFL in yards and touchdowns, it seems doubtful he will voluntarily fall short of his “play through age 45” statement he has repeated several times. He most definitely doesn’t meet the standard of “I’ll retire when I suck”.

Brady is under contract with the Buccaneers through the 2022 season. The team itself will likely look a lot different than it did the last two seasons with many key decisions to be made.
