A few weeks ago, Brady was asked about Maye's breakout season with the Patriots. The former No. 3 pick from North Carolina completed 72% of his passes in the regular season for 4,394 yards with 31 touchdowns. Although he helped the Patriots get back to the AFC Championship, he wouldn't be Brady's pick for MVP.
“I think what Matthew Stafford’s done this season has been absolutely remarkable – 46 touchdowns for any quarterback, that’s a dream season. So he’s been spectacular,” Brady said. “Drake’s got a long career ahead. I’m sure he’s gonna have many opportunities. But I would say Matthew Stafford [is MVP this season].”
Some fans in New England accused Brady of being unwilling to compliment Maye. They were convinced it was because he doesn't want another quarterback on the Patriots to potentially win the Super Bowl.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion squashed that narrative during an appearance on "The Herd" this Friday.
Brady made it very clear that he respects Maye's game as well as his leadership skills.
"Drake Maye has that humility. Everything that comes out of his mouth is always about the team," Brady said. "It's always about praising his defense, praising his offensive line. That's how you connect with people. That's what great leaders do - they're in service of other people. It's not about what can you do for me, it's what can I do for you. How can I support your goals, your vision? True leadership is about humility."

The Patriots will face the Denver Broncos this Sunday in the AFC Championship. Although he's been a bit careless with the football this postseason, Maye will remain aggressive with his approach.
"I don't think you try to change it," Maye said. "I think last week, if you change it, Kayshon (Boutte) doesn't make the play. Little things like that are just knowing the time and place for it. Trying to get the ball out of my hand and just being cognizant of the edge rushers and taking care of the football is the No. 1 thing. If we have time and have a look downfield, you know me, I'm gonna take a shot."
If Maye leads the Patriots to the Super Bowl, there'll be plenty of fans in Massachusetts ready to crown him as the best quarterback in the NFL.
