The Las Vegas Raiders are embarking on a new chapter in their head coaching search after firing Pete Carroll following a 3-14 season in 2025, the worst record in the NFL . Carroll’s brief tenure in Las Vegas failed to produce the turnaround the organization expected, and owner Mark Davis, alongside minority owner Tom Brady and general manager John Spytek, has taken the next step toward overhauling the franchise’s leadership.

Carroll was hired just a year ago and brought experience and a Super Bowl pedigree, but the Raiders’ struggles on both sides of the ball and lack of sustained success ultimately led to his dismissal.

Las Vegas holds the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, a valuable asset as the team looks to pair a potential franchise quarterback with a head coach capable of developing young talent and building a culture of stability. Raiders Nation has consistently expressed a desire for a coach with offensive leadership and quarterback experience to match the expected direction of the roster.

On Thursday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that the Raiders are interviewing Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph for their head coaching vacancy. Nagy and Joseph are among the first candidates to be formally interviewed as Las Vegas intensifies its search for the next leader of the franchise.

Nagy as head coach makes sense Las Vegas, given his offensive background and work with the Kansas City Chiefs. The 47-year-old, who previously served as the head coach of the Chicago Bears , led his team to multiple playoff appearances and was named AP Coach of the Year in 2018, giving him experience running an offense and managing a roster at the highest level. His association with Chiefs coach Andy Reid and exposure to elite quarterback play from Patrick Mahomes offer perspective the Raiders hope can translate to guiding a young quarterback in Las Vegas.

Joseph, currently the defensive coordinator of the Broncos, brings another type of experience to the table. He previously served as the Broncos’ head coach in 2017-18 and has since rebuilt his reputation as a respected defensive play caller for Denver’s top-ranked unit.
