The New England Patriots will soon say goodbye to one of the pillars of their dynasty.
Director of Scouting Administration Nancy Meier plans to retire in May after 51 seasons with the club. She joined the team in 1974 at age 19 and became the longest-tenured full-time employee in franchise history.
Over five decades, she worked behind the scenes and helped build a championship standard. During her Time with the Patriots, NFL legend Tom Brady earned 6 super Bowls with the organisation. She shared a close professional bond with Brady throughout his 20-year tenure in New England.
Brady once labeled Meier the Patriots’ unsung hero.
"I think she is very much an unsung hero because she does a lot of work without a lot of credit, but I think all of the people around there appreciate what she does," Brady told The Athletic in December 2020. "She’s just an incredible person. She is as respected as anybody in the league."
Meier will step away after the 2026 NFL Draft when her contract expires. At 71, she plans to focus on her children and four grandchildren.
"I’ve never had the freedom of not being attached to it,” Meier said, via Mass Live. “Not worrying that I’m going to the pool for the day with my family and I’m up at the pool house on the phone, getting a player in (to Foxborough) or whatever else.
With such a long tenure, she knows that she will need time to adjust to post-retirement.
“I mean, people talk about travel," Meier said. "I’m sure I’ll travel. I’m sure there’ll be all kinds of nice things I’ll do. But I think detaching, it’s going to take a while.”
Meier started her career by typing scouting reports and organizing binders. Her role grew into handling contracts, travel, roster moves, and rookie transitions. She worked under 11 head coaches and four ownership groups. The Patriots reached 12 Super Bowls during her tenure and won six titles.
The Patriots honored her in January 2025 on her 50th season.

One of her final major tasks came at the 2026 NFL Combine in Indianapolis. A blizzard hit New England, yet she arranged travel for nearly 70 staff members. She received praise for her detailed planning.
Now, a family cruise tops her list once retirement begins. But even then, she has not ruled out helping a team in a smaller role.
