Tom Ernisse’s Dolphins Mock Draft 1.0
With Free Agency in full swing and teams making their moves, it’s now time for a mock draft. After the initial wave of free agency, the Dolphins made their move to land QB Malik Willis from Green Bay to be their present and potential long-term answer at the position.
Outside of that, it has been very ho-hum, as expected, with the Dolphins having very little to work with after the release of Tua Tagovailoa . The Dolphins have needs across the board, and this draft will give Jon Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley a foundation to build off of.
1(11)- Kenyon Sadiq, TE, Oregon
After signing Willis and not bringing in a bona fide WR2, JES goes to work and gets an absolute freak athlete at pick 11. Dolphins could have gone defense here, but the top guys were off the board. Sadiq brings a ridiculous speed for a man his size (6’3″, 241lbs), an outstanding catch radius, and great route running ability. He is this year’s Trey McBride, and the Dolphins need a long-term answer here while providing a safety net for Willis.
2(43)- Christen Miller, DT Georgia
The interior of the Dolphins’ DL needs more help. Kenneth Grant made strides late last season and should have a better second season. Pairing him up with Christen Miller should give this team the bulk it needs. Miller is a run-stuffing DL and gets off the ball quickly. If he can develop better pass-rush technique, he will be a steal in round 2.
3(75)- Devin Moore, CB, Florida
The Dolphins have a busy 3rd round and grab Devin Moore. He had a strong 2025 campaign, getting 30+ tackles, 2 INT (one that sealed the win against Texas), and a sack. He only had one full season starting, but he made it count. He has size (6’3″) and has the versatility to play man or zone.
3(87)- Genesis Smith, S Arizona
Continuing to rebuild the secondary, JES selects Genesis Smith. Smith is another versatile player who can play as a single high safety, slot DB or in the box. He has 5 career picks and 4 forced fumbles. He gives off early career Jevon Holland vibes.
3(90)- Ja’Kobi Lane, WR USC
JES said this is a WR room that will be bigger. Sadiq is in round one at 6’3″ and now grabbing Ja’Kobi Lane at 6’4″ with their final pick in round 3. Lane isn’t a finished product by any stretch, but he is a redzone threat getting 16TDs inside the 20 the previous 2 seasons. If he adds a bit more to his route-running tree, he could be a bona fide #2 WR. Also to note, the Packers have been good at finding WRS in the middle rounds.
4(111)- Drew Shelton, OT/OG Penn State
Dolphins need to add a massive amount of depth at guard and tackle, the good news is Shelton, who played T at Penn State, is a candidate to move inside if the team desired to do so. Jonah was a massive disappointment last season, so adding depth and competition is important. He’s played in 45 college games, and his experience in one of the best conferences should give him a shot at winning a G job in camp.
5(151)- Markel Bell, OT Miami (FL)
I mentioned a massive amount of depth, right? What about a massive man who can provide depth? Markel Bell is damn near 7 ft tall, and his ability to move edge rushers might be understated. While his inability to run block can be an issue, it can also be coached. Dolphins need tackle depth, and Bell can play on either side if needed.
7(227)- Mason Reiger, EDGE Wisconsin
New Dolphins brass had Reiger in their backyard for a few years, so I am sure they have studied him. He falls to the Dolphins in the 7th. He started at OLB this past season at Wisconsin and racked up 5 sacks, 6 TFL, and 45 QB pressures. His tackling needs work, but his pass-rush ability is there for sure.
7(238)- Jack Kelly, LB BYU
Some added depth is needed behind Jordyn Brooks and Kelly could fit the bill as a box LB. He is versatile as he can line up as an edge rusher and get after the QB. After 10 sacks last season, this is a shot in the dark to see if he can make the roster with his limitations as an athlete.
