Tony Romo Addresses End-of-Dynasty Debate for Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes

In attendance at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, former Cowboys quarterback and CBS Sports color commentator Tony Romo made it clear that he’s not buying the idea that the Kansas City Chiefs’ dynasty is coming to a close.

“They’ve been saying that for years,” Romo said in response to a question from a Kansas City reporter. “They said that about Brady and the Patriots and Belichick. It’s the same thing. You got Andy Reid, you got Mahomes, you got Kelce. You guys are going to be fine.”

The "end of the dynasty" narrative has picked up steam this offseason, largely due to questions about Travis Kelce’s future. The All-Pro tight end will turn 36 in October and is entering his 12th NFL season. But Romo isn’t concerned, and he has good reason not to be.

For starters, Patrick Mahomes remains one of the league’s most dominant quarterbacks. He’s already won three Super Bowls, three Super Bowl MVPs, two MVPs, and hasn't missed an AFC Championship appearance in each of his last seven seasons. He’s also locked into a long-term deal that gives the team flexibility to build around him.

Then there’s head coach Andy Reid, one of the greatest offensive minds the league has ever seen. Reid’s creativity and ability to adapt year to year, along with his strong relationship with Mahomes, have kept the Chiefs' offense elite, even as top targets like Tyreek Hill have moved on.

And while Kelce might be nearing the end, his current form still ranks among the best at the position. He's collected at least 83 receptions and 800+ yards in every season since 2016.

With Mahomes under center, Kelce running routes, and Reid on the sideline, the Chiefs aren’t going anywhere. As Romo put it, the Chiefs will "be fine.”
