Tony Romo spent his entire NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, retiring after the 2016 season after rookie Dak Prescott took over the starting quarterback position. In the very next season, Romo began his post-playing career, joining CBS Sports as an analyst alongside Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson. In 2020, Romo signed a 10-year extension with CBS worth $180 million.
And with Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season starting, Romo called his first game of the year on Sunday when Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions hit the road to take on Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers.
Less than three minutes into the game, Romo showed a bit of rust on the Packers’ opening drive. After a passing play from Love, Romo accidentally called him “Jared Love,” blending the names of the two opposing quarterbacks.
Many NFL fans took notice of Romo's blunder during the Lions vs. Packers game, taking to social media to leave their thoughts.
"Tony Romo referred to Jarred Love. Season starting strong for the $18M a year broadcaster," one fan said.
"Tony romo just said “Jared Love” who is jared love?" asked a second.
"Tony Romo keeps calling this man Jared Love ," wrote a third.
"According to Tony Romo, Jordan Love is now Jerrod Love," posted a fourth.
"Thank god we got Tony Romo back calling Jordan Love 'Jared,'" commented a fifth.
"Romo coming out the gates hot this season calling Jordon “jared love” second (expletive) play from scrimmage Stay hot Tony," added another.
Love and the Packers ended their first drive of the season with a touchdown pass from Love to Tucker Kraft. Their defense opened up nice as well, forcing Goff and the Lions to a 3-and-out.
