In a Week 1 track meet at MetLife, the New York Jets fell 34-32 to the Pittsburgh Steelers despite outgaining Pittsburgh 394-271 and rushing for 182 yards.
Aaron Rodgers threw four touchdowns and led the winning drive capped by Chris Boswell’s 60-yard field goal with one minute, three seconds left, while Justin Fields finished 16-of-22 for 218 yards with one touchdown, plus 48 rushing yards and two scores.
On Sunday morning, Tony Romo used CBS’ "NFL Today" platform to float the idea that, despite the loss, the Jets could be for real this year.
"I felt like the Jets imposed their will a little bit on a team that usually doesn't get, you know, their will imposed on with the Steelers," Romo said. "So I think you're going to find out today, and I'm going to talk about it before the game, the Jets might be for real.
"Now, this comes down to Justin Fields being able to replicate what he did last week," Romo added. "But I think this team might actually surprise a lot of people this year and might make a run to possibly a winning record. Watch out."

Against the Steelers, Fields had no turnovers, one sack, a league-best Expected Points Added (EPA) per dropback for Week 1 and a top-10 QBR (79.4). He also finished second in completion air yards per completion (8.6) among Week 1 starters.
Fields’ postgame posture was blunt, saying, "There are not any moral victories in this league," while acknowledging the fight from his team and that not "a lot of people expected us to come out like that."
Jets star receiver Garrett Wilson, meanwhile, called playing with Fields "like a dream," citing how quickly he worked through progressions and kept plays alive.
Whether the Jets are as "for real" as Romo claims could come down to how they perform on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, who are the current odds-on favorites to win the Super Bowl.
Buffalo enters as a road favorite by 5.5 points, with a total set to 46.5, per ESPN BET. The Bills are 4-1 in the last five vs. New York and 3-0 in the last three, with ESPN's matchup predictor giving Buffalo a 64.5% chance of winning.
The Jets host the Bills at 1 p.m. ET Sunday on CBS.
