Top 3 Alvin Kamara Trade Destinations, Ranked

The Alvin Kamara Era could be coming to an end in New Orleans, as the Travis Etienne signing likely means a trade is right around the corner. Kamara is one of the best players in franchise history, but Father Time comes for us all, and head coach Kellen Moore is likely moving on to a younger player. On Day 1 of the legal tampering period, the Saints signed the former Jaguars star to a massive four-year, $52 million deal.

Put simply, you don’t give a player this much money to be a backup, so it’s safe to assume that Etienne will see the lion’s share of the work next year. Kamara, meanwhile, becomes one of the league’s most expensive backups with a $10.44 million cap hit. New Orleans could save cap space by trading the veteran after June 1st, and while Alvin Kamara is not the player he once was, he should draw some interest from a few needy teams.

Note: this article is being posted while a handful of big-name free agent running backs are still available. It’s possible a future signing takes one of the teams out of the Alvin Kamara sweepstakes.

3 Teams That Could Trade For Alvin Kamara, Ranked

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders made a splash when they signed pass rusher Odafe Oweh to a massive contract, but he won’t be enough to singlehandedly fix this roster. While the defensive line was a major area of concern, this team must also do something to address the running back room. Seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt couldn’t live up to his early-season hype, and the team could use an established starter to pair with quarterback Jayden Daniels. Alvin Kamara is a great trade candidate at this stage in his career, as he and Croskey-Merritt can form a solid thunder-and-lightning duo as the team looks to rebound from a disappointing 2025.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl last year, and they’ll have to try to defend the title without the big game’s MVP. Kenneth Walker is now in Kansas City, which means Zach Charbonnet is currently the unquestioned starter on the depth chart. While the former second-round pick is a good running back, he’s never handled a full three-down workload before. There are only a handful of backs in the league capable of handling that type of workload, and a contending team like Seattle should invest in a proven veteran to ease his workload. Alvin Kamara is the right man for the job and can help sustain this rushing attack.

Los Angeles Chargers

Nobody loves to run the football more than Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh. While he has two interesting young players in Omarion Hampton and Kimani Vidal, nobody should be surprised if he kicks the tires on Alvin Kamara. Hampton and Vidal have promising futures in this league, but neither player has much professional experience. Kamara won’t be the featured back in this offense, but the longtime veteran could help keep everyone fresh and provide some much-needed leadership for this young depth chart.
