After a disappointing finish to the 2023 season, expectations remain high for the Philadelphia Eagles. Nearing an end to a busy offseason, the team seems poised to retake the NFC East.
Here are the franchise's five most valuable people for 2024:
Remember when Philadelphians lost their minds after the team’s chief security officer was suspended for the final five games of 2023? "Big Dom" was barred from the sidelines after a Week 13 confrontation with 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw while the team went 1-4 to end the regular season.
According to the Eagles media guide, the team’s longest-tenured employee oversees all safety and security matters for players, coaches and executives. He also directs security at the team’s training complex, is responsible for security measures related to team travel and logistics and provides education on the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
Former Eagles coach Chip Kelly once told The Philadelphia Inquirer that DiSandro “should be head of psychology” for the team. After all, he has been a sounding board for team personnel and a confidant for players since 1999.
According to statmuse.com, the Eagles' win percentage when Johnson is on the field is .626; when he isn't, it is .389. In comparison, Kelce's win percentage in 13 years with the team was .578.
Entering his 12th season as a Philadelphia Eagle, the 34-year-old shows no signs of slowing down with a first-team All-Pro nomination in 2022 and a fifth Pro Bowl appearance in 2023. Before a Week 7 game against the Dolphins in 2023, Johnson hadn’t allowed a sack since Week 11 of the 2020 season.
In 2018, Johnson started the OL Masterminds (OLM) Summit, an annual retreat to help offensive linemen from around the league, including many of his teammates, master their craft. More recently, he was nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award for advocating mental health awareness and treatment. While Kelce may have been the face of the team’s offensive line, Johnson has always been its heart.
Hurts carried the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII with 35 touchdowns and 4,461 total yards in 2022 but did them no favors with 19 turnovers in 2023. The 26-year-old quarterback took a step back last season, throwing just five touchdowns with five interceptions as the team went 1-5 to end the regular season.
This year, he’ll be learning another offense under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, his third OC in as many years. While reports from training camp have been positive, Hurts will need time to adapt to Moore’s motion-based offense.
If he succeeds, another Super Bowl appearance could be in the cards. If not, the team’s most important player might not see the end of the five-year, $255M contract he signed last year.
Make no mistake: The Eagles’ executive vice president/general manager has his hands on everything within the organization. Roseman started with the team as an intern in 2000 and held many jobs before his current position.
Roseman’s hyperactive demeanor serves him well in Philadelphia, especially on draft day, and his football acumen has twice earned him NFL Executive of the Year honors. He finished at the top of the NFL GM power rankings in 2023 and looks to do the same in 2024.
According to the team’s website, Philadelphia has a greater overall winning percentage (.556) with more playoff games (34) and playoff victories (17) under Lurie than all previous ownership groups combined. He also brought the city its first Super Bowl championship in 2017, which is nice.
