The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly made a move to shore up one of their most glaring weaknesses by acquiring LB Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals.
While the official details of the trade have not yet been disclosed, several reports indicate that Cincinnati was seeking at least a sixth-round pick in return for the veteran defender. (now confirmed to be a 7th-round pick)
This move couldn’t come at a better time for the Cowboys, whose linebacker play has been among the worst in the NFL this season.
Missed tackles, poor pursuit angles, and communication breakdowns have plagued the unit week after week, leaving the middle of the field exposed to both the run and short passing attacks.
The Cowboys have desperately lacked a physical, instinctive presence at linebacker since losing DeMarvion Overshown to injury, and the defense as a whole has suffered because of it.
Overshown has been working his way back, and now will have a new partner in crime when he returns.
Enter Logan Wilson; a player known for his toughness, football intelligence, and leadership.
A former third-round pick out of Wyoming, Wilson has been one of the most consistent players on Cincinnati’s defense in recent years. He brings excellent tackling form, reliable coverage ability against tight ends and running backs, and a nose for the football.
His range and instincts make him a natural fit in DC Matt Eberflus’ system, which thrives on disciplined, assignment-sound play from the linebackers.
Wilson’s contract runs through 2027, but the Cowboys have a potential out after this season, providing flexibility if things don’t work out.
Essentially, Dallas can treat the remainder of the 2025 season as a trial period to evaluate his long-term fit.
For a defense that has been anemic and inconsistent all year, adding Wilson could bring much-needed stability and veteran savvy to a group that has been searching for answers, and perhaps, a turning point.
