Trade hold-up could cost Aaron Rodgers decent chunk of change

Multiple videos of players showing up to the Green Bay Packers offseason workout program Monday were posted on the team’s social media page. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers wasn’t seen on any of them.

The featured players included quarterback Jordan Love, running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Christian Watson. Missing the program could cost Rodgers a good amount of change.

Rodgers could lose money by not working out with Packers

Rodgers stated he intends to play for the New York Jets this season. The Packers and Jets have yet to agree to terms on a trade deal, however.

With the Packers publicly naming Love as the team’s starter, it’s not expected Rodgers will show up to the offseason program, but as a veteran member of the Packers, Rodgers has every right to show up until he’s traded — and the incentive to is financial.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Rodgers would receive $50,000 for attending the offseason program. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Silverstein, Rodgers must attend three workouts to claim the money.

Another price could be the sanity of the Packers organization. Rodgers’ presence would undoubtedly cause a distraction for the team. Whether that would expedite the process of trading Rodgers to the Jets is unclear.

Rodgers missed the program in 2021 and 2022, so his absence this offseason isn't anything new for the Packers. According to Rich Cimini with ESPN, Rodgers missing the Jets offseason workout program isn’t too big of a deal to the team before the meat of the OTA season.

And, of course, the Jets begin the offseason program without their presumptive QB. Chances are, Aaron Rodgers would’ve skipped anyway. Workouts are voluntary. Not a pressing for the #Jets — not yet. Practices start in a month.

While Rodgers might be away from official team activities, he is working out with Jets teammates. Reports came out recently that Rodgers worked out with wide receiver Allen Lazard.
