Patrick Mahomes spent his 4th of July weekend with his wife, Brittany, and some friends on a yacht in Miami. Sounds cool, right? Well, former Kansas City radio host Kevin Kietzman had a problem with it. His problem with it was that he thought Mahomes looked "fat", even going as far as saying that Mahomes is "an embarrassment".
“Vacation photos are popping up of Patrick Mahomes, and he’s fat,” Kietzman said on his podcast. “I’m gonna say it, and I’m gonna tell you the truth, that’s why you hit the play button, he’s an embarrassment.”
That wasn't where Kietzman ended his rant, continuing to rag on the three-time Super Bowl champion.
“You’re a $500 million quarterback, you’ve made all these comments in the offseason that ‘We’re gonna do our talking on the field, we got our butts kicked in the Super Bowl, we’re coming back with a vengeance,’" the former radio host continued. "Dude, you’re fat. Your belly would be fat at my pool, hanging out with us, 60-year-olds. My skin is flabbier than yours, I get it. Stop. Stop the fast food. Do a sit-up. Do something.”
Bobby Stroupe, Mahomes' trainer, who fans got to see up close and personal during season one of Quarterback, fired back at Kietzman. Unfortunately, Stroupe's tweets have since been deleted but lucky for us, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk had the receipts.
“Send me your location,” Stroupe reportedly said. “You obviously need attention. If you want to see what in shape is -- go make it through a practice at [training camp] or run hurry up offense scrambling back to back to back plays. You don’t have a clue what it takes. It’s not a look, it’s performance.”
Stroupe is right in saying that Kietzman needs attention. I'm not sure what the angle of insulting a three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time MVP who has been to five Super Bowls in a six-year span is other than to get attention but Stroupe wasn't having it and made sure to stand up for his guy, as all Chiefs fans were doing in that same moment.
It's worth noting that Kietzman is a former radio host in Kansas City for a reason. In 2019, Kietzman was fired from his job at Sports Radio 810 after criticizing Andy Reid's ability (or in his argument, inability) to discipline players and using his family's tragic loss of their son as an example of that.
"Andy Reid does not have a great record of fixing players. He doesn't. Discipline is not his thing. It did not work out particularly well in his family life, and that needs to be added to this, as we're talking about the Chiefs. He wasn't real great at that either. He's had a lot of things go bad on him, family and players," Kietzman said in a radio broadcast in the summer of 2019.
Yeah, so Stroupe absolutely going scorched earth on Kietzman here was a gem of a moment and it's a shame that he deleted the tweets. If only we could delete Kietzman from Kansas City, that'd sure be great.
