With just three games remaining in the 2025 NFL season, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is nearing the end of his 13th professional season. For the first time since 2014, it will not end with a playoff berth. Instead, the 36-year-old will be out of contract and plans to make a decision on his NFL future.
Kelce will play the remaining games this year against the Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders without his longtime quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in last Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
After winning three Super Bowl titles together, there is a very real chance that Kelce has caught his last pass from Mahomes in the NFL.
A week before the injury, Mahomes addressed his tight end's potential upcoming retirement, saying, "Every season I’ve had with (Kelce) these last few years I try to cherish because you never know."
Kelce still has not given any indication on whether or not he will return to the Chiefs next season. His reaction on Friday to the thought that he may have played his final game with Mahomes illustrated the weight of the decision Kelce is facing.
"Man, that's crazy," Kelce said in a Friday press conference, addressing the possibility.

The 10-time Pro Bowler quickly snapped back into reality, choosing to focus on his job for the next three games before giving any more thought to his future. Kelce is a critical figure to the offense with 67 catches for 797 yards and five touchdowns.
“I’d rather keep the focus on this team, right now," Kelce said. "All the conversations I have with the team moving forward will be with them."
He did admit that being out of playoff contention was a "unique" feeling that he is dealing with heading into the offseason.
“It’s a unique time in my life," Kelce said. "Unfortunately I got three games left and I know when the season ends this year. Typically, when we go into it, we don’t know when it’s going to end.”
While Kelce continues to mull over his future, the Chiefs will face the Titans on the road this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS, with Gardner Minshew starting at quarterback.
